How to resize an image for a YouTube thumbnail

  1. Add your image — a screenshot, photo or design.
  2. The 1280×720 preset is selected; choose Fit instead of Fill to keep the whole image with bars.
  3. Click Resize and upload the result in YouTube Studio.
What size is a YouTube thumbnail?

1280×720 pixels (16:9) is YouTube's recommended size, and this preset produces exactly that.

My thumbnail is too large to upload — what do I do?

YouTube limits thumbnail files to a couple of megabytes. Run the result through Compress image with a target size, such as 1 MB, to stay safely under it.
