How to change the volume of audio

Normalize measures each file and sets its loudest point to a target. Change volume applies the same boost or cut to every file — better for matching a set.

Why does it crackle at high boosts?

Peaks that would go past full scale are held at the limit; very large boosts on already loud audio can distort. Try a smaller value or Normalize audio.
