Quality, resolution or target size
Quality sets how much detail the encoder keeps: Balanced suits most videos, Small gives the smallest files, and High keeps more detail at a larger size. Resolution is the biggest lever for phone and 4K footage — dropping to 1080p or 720p cuts the size dramatically while still looking sharp on phones. Target size is for hard limits: from the video's length the tool works out the bitrate that fits, keeps a little headroom, and sets aside room for the sound.
Getting the smallest file
The size of a compressed video depends mostly on its length and resolution. Cut parts you don't need with Trim Video first, choose 720p for anything that will be watched on a phone, and use Mute Video if you don't need the sound. The output is an MP4, which plays on phones, computers and every major messaging and social app.
Is my video safe?
Yes. Your video is only used to create your result — it’s never shared and never used to train AI.
Which browsers work?
Recent Chrome, Edge and Safari 17+ work best. Firefox supports most tools; if a codec isn't available we'll tell you.
How does target size work?
We calculate the bitrate needed to fit the size you choose for the video's length.
Which video formats can I compress?
MP4, MOV (including iPhone videos), WebM, MKV and TS files, up to 10 at a time and 4 GB each. The result is always an MP4.
What if the video doesn't get smaller?
Some videos are already efficiently compressed. If the result wouldn't be smaller than the original you're told so, instead of being given a bigger file — try a lower resolution.
