What changes when you convert MP4 to MP3
Only the sound is kept — the picture is dropped — so the MP3 is a small fraction of the video's size. The sound is encoded at the bitrate you choose (higher sounds better, lower is smaller).
Does converting MP4 to MP3 reduce quality?
Slightly: both are lossy, so the MP4 is re-encoded. At the default setting most people can't see or hear a difference; raise the quality setting if you need more headroom.
Will the MP3 be smaller than the MP4?
Much smaller — only the sound is kept, and audio takes a small fraction of the space video does.
